Resumo. Off-road running (ORR) includes trail running, mountain running, skyrunning, and ultra-trail events performed in heterogeneous outdoor environments, where pacing is influenced by terrain, elevation, technicality, and race duration. This narrative review aimed to critically summarise pacing-analysis methods, data sources, and pacing-related performance metrics used in ORR studies. A structured PubMed search was conducted on 1 June 2026 using Title/Abstract terms related to ORR disciplines, pacing, race analysis, speed, performance metrics, GPS, and wearable data. The search retrieved 226 records for screening. After title-based screening and refinement according to pacing-specific eligibility criteria, 72 candidate studies were assessed, resulting in 11 core studies included in the narrative synthesis. The included studies used heterogeneous but complementary approaches, including official race results, split times, checkpoint data, Strava® segments, sport-watch files, experimental field data, terrain-adjusted models, and running-power metrics. Pacing was commonly quantified using segmental speed, checkpoint speed, relative pace, coefficient of variation of speed or pace, relative section speed, grade-adjusted speed, weighted time adjusted for terrain difficulty, and power-based intensity distribution. Overall, the evidence suggests that pacing in ORR reflects context-sensitive regulation of effort across terrain-specific and race-stage demands. Future ORR performance analysis should integrate race-level outcomes, terrain-specific segmentation, wearable-derived metrics, and field-based assessments.
